Choosing a platform to launch on
Match your project to the right home — fit beats size every time.
Fit beats size
The biggest platform isn't automatically yours. The right one matches your category, funding model and audience.
A quick map
| If you're launching… | Start with |
|---|---|
| A new gadget / physical product | Makuake, GREEN FUNDING, kibidango |
| A community, music, local or first project | CAMPFIRE |
| An NPO, medical, academic or social cause | READYFOR, For Good |
| Independent film, art, publishing | MOTION GALLERY |
| A municipal / regional project | Furusato Choice GCF |
| A startup raising equity | FUNDINNO (regulated) |
| A business sharing revenue | セキュリテ (fund) |
Decide in four questions
- Reward or cause? Product → reward platform; mission → donation platform.
- All-or-Nothing or All-in? Physical goods usually want All-or-Nothing; community goals often want All-in.
- What fee can you absorb? Roughly 9–20% plus payment fees — model it into your goal.
- Where is your audience already? A platform's built-in traffic helps, but your own outreach drives most of the first day's pledges — and a strong first day drives the algorithm.
Before you apply
- A clear story, a realistic budget (including fees, shipping, reward costs), and at least one honest visual of the thing.
- A plan to reach your people on day one. The crowd rarely arrives on its own.
